Having visited Shilparamam during my two-year stint in Hyderabad for post-graduation, I've always cherished its authenticity and the diverse array of handicrafts it offers. Recently, during a brief return to attend my 20th-year reunion, Shilparamam once again caught my exploration nerve, offering the perfect opportunity to bask in its traditional ambiance and revel in its festivities.

Stepping through its gates, visitors are greeted by a beautifully adorned temple, serving as the focal point of attraction. Adjacent, the fair unfolds with myriad stalls, each a window into the diverse craftsmanship of India. From intricate handloom textiles to exquisite metalwork, traditional folk paintings to intricately carved woods, and artisanal handmade jewelry to clothing, every corner of Shilparamam narrates a tale of artistic brilliance.
Immersing in Cultural Delights
Beyond its artisanal offerings, Shilparamam serves as a melting pot of cultural experiences. Visitors can engage in live demonstrations of traditional craft techniques, interact with skilled artisans, and even try their hand at crafting their own masterpieces. During my visit, I had the privilege to attend the Gandhi Shilp Bazar and Sankranti Celebrations, a collaborative effort that showcased the essence of Shilparamam's cultural vibrancy.

The village boasts an array of food stalls offering regional delicacies, allowing visitors to tantalize their taste buds amidst the vibrant ambiance. Artisanal Experience at Shilparamam
Pattachitra Folk Painting: Mr. Chandan Swain journeyed all the way from Raghurajpur to exhibit his Pattachitra paintings, showcased on traditional handmade canvas as well as papier-mâché articles.
Etikoppaka Bommalu Toys: Mr. Rambabu traveled from his village, Etikoppaka in Vishakhapatnam, to present toys crafted from soft wood and lacquer colors. Colored with natural dyes derived from seeds, lacquer, bark, roots, and leaves, these toys are chemical-free and sustainable.
Manipuri Tribal Bead Jewelry: Bead jewelry holds significant cultural importance for Manipuri females and is meticulously handmade by women using needles and fine beads. Ms. Bijenti Chanu represented this art form from her home state of Manipur at Shilparamam.
Lambadi (Banjara) Embroidery from Maharashtra: Vijaya Pawar, the founder of Peno India based in Mumbai, showcased Lambadi embroidery at the fair. These unique items, crafted by the Banjara community, include exquisite jewelry, bags, stationery, and clothing.
In addition to these artisans, many other artists offered items such as stone work, metal castings, woodwork, handwoven textiles, and hand-painted textiles, among others.
